Trip Introduction
Hardcore, hardcore, hardcore.... This package is known as one of our most exhausting tips in our program. We will take our anglers to Madagascar for the jigging and popper trip of their lives.
As we will be staying on a remote Mitsio Island anglers will find unfished waters here with tons of Giant Trevally, Mangrove Trevally and many other reef species. We call this the Island of Pain as it is one of the best jigging destination in Africa and our anglers will literally feel the pain with catching so many fish!!
The Fishing
The ‘Island of Pain’ offers a huge amount of opportunities for huge GTs, Sharks and even Marlin and Sailfish. Most of the time we will be jigging the shallow waters on the big continental shelf which reaches more than 60km out into the ocean.
There are two different ways of jigging in Mitsio. First, when hunting of the big Bonito schools and dropping the jigs right into them. Second, when jigging on specific underwater structures using sonar. Both techniques are really productive and will produce a lot of fish.
We normally use light jigs up to 250g and PE 4-6 jigging rods with 50-60lbs line. Easy jigging in shallow water.
The best time for popper fishing for GT is in March and April. When the water temperatures are low, these fish start hunting in the shallow areas and will slam poppers from the surface.
Anglers will need strong popper rods up to PE 8 and 80lbs braid on the reels or fish will be lost in the reef.
While jigging the hot spots we often use livebait rods and baitfish for catching big Shark, Kingfish or Giant Trevally and Groupers.
The Accommodation

Travel Plan
Day 1: All anglers fly out and arrive at Nosy Be airport, Madagascar. They will be picked up by private transport and after a short transfer will arrive at the Sari Manok Hotel. After lunch, we’ll start our journey to Mitsio Island. With center console boats it will take three hours to reach the remote archipelago of Mitsio Island, better known as the Island of Pain! We will help rig equipment and get everything ready for the next few days. After a good dinner anglers can chill out at the bar and discuss the next exciting days of fishing…
Day 2 to 6: We will fish from morning to evening. Our anglers will fish in many different spots in a huge area with hundreds of hot spots. Every day we provide lunch on board with cool drinks. We will use jigging and popping rods depending on the season anglers come down and we will assure the maximum of action and bent rods!!
Day 7: On the last day on Mitsio Island we will slowly start fishing back to Nosy Be. This full fishing day will show anglers other areas in-between Mistio and Nosy Be. We will reach at Nosy Be in the late afternoon and we will drop everyone at the hotel where they will stay one more night before leaving the next day.
Day 8: Depending on flights, our transport will pick anglers up at the hotel and take them to the Nosy Be airport. Our trip ends at the airport in Nosy Be.
