CAÑO BOCÓN - COLOMBIA
Trip Introduction
Our rustic camp is nestled in the banks of the Caño Bocón River in the shade of jungle trees with close access to some of the best Giant Peacock Bass, Payara and Jatuarana fishing in South America. This is a crystal-clear blackwater fishery that we believe will produce the new World record Peacock Bass!
The water levels drop quickly and the river starts to recede out of the flooded jungle by November. December to end-March is prime time to target these Giant Peacock Bass and other species as the water levels have dropped and the fish are easier to target during this period.

The Fishing
We target many HUGE Peacock Bass here in the high 20lbs+ (camp record 29lbs), Butterfly Peacock Bass to 12lbs, the slash-and-grab Payara/Vampire Fish to 30lbs, acrobatic Bocón/Jatuarána, Surubim Cats and much more.
The blackwaters of the Caño Bócon have perfect acidic pH levels that promote the growth of HUGE Peacock Bass. The river runs through the Puinave Indian Reserve rainforest and savannah land, with beautiful blackwater lagoons and streams. Big, aggressive Peacock Bass inhabit the lagoons and river points, sand bars and banks etc. This is NOT a numbers area, but a prime fishery for specimen-sized giant fish!
There is fantastic top water action to be had targeting Giant Three-Barred/Speckled and Butterfly Peacock Bass using surface prop baits, poppers and stick baits/Super Spooks. There is also excellent subsurface action using minnow baits, bucktail jigs with extended tails and other lures and flies.
Payaras will hit minnowbaits, flies and jigs and often topwater poppers and walking baits. Bocón (this river is named after this great sportfish) or Jatuaránas will hit flies, small poppers and spoons/spinners in the faster currents near steep banks and under trees.

The Accommodation
Our camp is nestled on the banks of the Caño Bocón. Individual separated ‘rooms’ with single beds provide rustic but comfortable accommodation. An eating and ‘chilling’ room is be set apart from the sleeping areas. There are also flushable toilets and showers.
The Kitchen supplies our guests with great hot meals and all beverages including ice cold beer, juices, sodas and mineral water, coffee etc.
